AGM 2019: A Festival of Cultures, Board Updates, & More

Annual General Meeting in Summary

On Sunday, March 3, the Northern California Peace Corps Association held its Annual General Meeting. This year the meeting was held in Berkeley and our theme was “A Festival of Cultures.”

Throughout the afternoon, we kept very busy. We ate delicious potluck food, we heard an update on the organization and its many activities from the past year, we visited tables with groups including Asili Research Alliance, RPCVs for Environmental Action, Dining for Women, Limitless Horizons and country/cultural tables representing Cameroon, Zambia, and Honduras. In conjunction with the National Peace Corps Association’s (NPCA) National Days of Action in support of the Peace Corps, we also hosted a table where we wrote postcards to our Members of Congress in support of the Peace Corps. Given the Administration has just proposed a $14 million cut to the Peace Corps budget, it is increasingly important for our representatives to understand the value of the Peace Corps and our community!

A highlight for all, we heard from a few of this year’s grantees. After many community members donated to our grants program in the name of beloved RPCV Lenore Waters, our grants program was able to support many amazing projects. These included Hesperian Health Guides, Full Basket Belize, Health Access Connect, and Comixlenl Coffee Cooperative. To learn more about our Grants Program, click here. To donate to our grants program or to our general fund, please see here. We appreciate your support!

To top it all off, we danced up a storm with a lesson from BrazArte, a local nonprofit focused on sharing the rich cultural heritage of Brasil and promoting a deeper understanding of South America’s largest country and the importance its African-Latin-European history had in its creation. We thank everyone for coming out to our AGM and give particular thanks to the board members and volunteers who chipped in to make a success!
